Two layers sewn along one edge. Gray background. Pattern in outer layer (kilohana) made of groups of black and red stripes of varying breadth. Man’s garment (malo) (Peale) or sleeping tapa (kapa moe) (Kaeppler). Acquired during the United States Exploring Expedition (1838-1842) by Titian R. Peale. “Dress of ‘tapa,’ Male attire.” on Peale list.
