Description

Red jug, body depressed angular, neck modeled to neck and head of bird, one vertical loop handle shoulder to neck. Without painting birds' legs and wings in high relief on upper body. Wide double band of molded geometric decoration in low relief

Face-neck vessel. Narrow-necked jug with a carinated body, bulging neck, rounded rim, 1 strap handle extending from the neck to the body, and a rounded base. There is a birds head on the neck with eyes and beak and modeled wings and feet on the shoulder. There are two bands of raised geometric decoration around the shoulder. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere with localized reduction as the ceramic paste is gray and orange in color. Part of the body looks dark gray and green, possibly from overfiring. The catalogue number is written on the object in black ink on the bottom of the base. Black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "2813."
